CHARACTER NAME: Lucina
AGE: No canon age given. My headcanon age for her is 20.
CANON: Fire Emblem: Awakening
CANON POINT Post-game, unmarried ending.
HISTORY: From the wiki!

PERSONALITY:

When Lucina was a child, she was playful and idealistic. She would often pretend to be the leader of the Junior Shepherds, paying homage to her father’s heroic band. She was a happy child, well loved by her parents, comfortable with her family and her lineage, and venerating people she considered to be heroes. This was most notably her father, but also her famed ancestor and king of legend, Marth. (This is heavily indicated in-game, when she masquerades as him to give herself additional courage.)

The adult she grew into was shaped by what befell the land early in her childhood. After the death of her father, the Fell Dragon Grima was resurrected and set to blight the land. Unending, bitter war broke out and Lucina put herself at the precipice of this. Losing both her mother and her father, she took up arms and fought - for her parents’ memory, for her people, and for the future. It eventually proved to be a losing battle, with Lucina and her comrades being heavily outmatched. The Divine Dragon Naga saw fit to intervene, and guided Lucina through the Outrealm Gate, back in time to stop the war before it starts. That brings Lucina to where she is now, having spent her formative years fighting for her life and, more importantly, losing that fight for her life.

Nobility runs thick in Ylisse’s royal line, and Lucina is no exception. Strong willed and determined, Lucina meets any challenge head on with all the strength she possesses. She never backs down from a fight, a challenge, or even a conversation. Having been trained from a young age as a swordsman in the manner of her father, she is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. There’s more than skill and precision guiding her abilities, however. There’s also desperation, and a keen sense of loss. Lucina is fighting to restore everything that has been taken not only from her, but from her entire nation. She understands that as a princess of Ylisse, her duty is to serve her people, and her only option is to succeed. This determination, along with Naga’s blessing, allowed Lucina to break down the barriers of time and rewrite the future into something kinder and gentler.

Despite all this, Lucina is far from cold. She is a kind-hearted young woman with a staunch sense of justice and a desire to do right by the people she loves. She has inherited a lot from her father. Most notably, she has a desire to protect others and defend those who cannot defend themselves. She is also far from bloodthirsty and despite having killed men in her past, Lucina has a strong dislike of death in any form. She’s seen too many people die, from family members to trusted comrades to innocent villagers, and has grown a significant distaste for it as a result. Not only does she want peace in her land, but she will bring peace to her land… even if she has to drag it, kicking and screaming, by the scruff of its neck.

When she finally reveals herself to her father, she breaks down in tears from sheer relief of having him close by. Despite having never really known Chrom while growing up, she doesn’t hesitate to embrace him and let him fill that role in her life. He comments that she is a master of the sword in her own right, but that does not stop Lucina from asking him for repeated sparring sessions and subsequently throwing the matches so they can continue. He comments that he is a devious child and this is true. As a princess, Lucina is no stranger to getting what she wants and has never really needed to learn to take “no” as an answer. In this, she effortlessly blends charm and selfishness.

When interacting with her mother, Lucina is very excited for them to go shopping together and eagerly tries to pick out the most “fashionable” dresses for her mother. As well, in their battle dialogue, Lucina can express a desire to have dinner with her mother and listen to stories of her mother's life, or for the two of them to have a cooking contest for Chrom. It is clear from these encounters that Lucina has not lost her capacity for love by any stretch of the imagination. She treasures her parents deeply and craves quite heavily the blissful domesticity she was denied in her own timeline. This includes taking solace in silly, playful, or downright stupid things.

In her interactions with others, Lucina’s social failings become apparent. When she speaks to Inigo, she becomes snappish and irritable when he tells her that she need not be so grim. He tries to impress the importance of smiling onto her, and she responds that life is grim and she holds the lives of her soldiers and her subjects in her hands, to smile would be disrespectful. She initially doesn't realize she hurt his feelings with her words. Lucina prioritizes stoicism over blind emotion, and can come off as rather insensitive or even unkind as a result. She says what she thinks and tries to force her own strictly practical nature on others, believing it to be for their own good.

It is important to point out that, despite everything, Lucina is not without her silly moments. She reacts immaturely to a female Player Character’s relationship with her father (if they’re not married; Fire Emblem: Awakening is one-quarter dating sim), at first growing jealous and suspicious that the PC is in love with Chrom and then responding with a childish indignation if the PC insists otherwise. Chrom is awesome, the best dad ever, why aren’t you in love with him, and so on. Even in these moments, however, she’s completely serious – if a touch misguided. She is canonically described as “the least likely to get a joke”, owing to her practical and grave nature. However, she is often eager to participate in the silliness of others, even if she doesn’t quite understand it. An example of this: her cousin Owain likes to make combat training more exciting by acting out grand, dramatic stories and giving his weapons and armor fanciful names. To join in, Lucina tries to change Falchion’s name to Pointy Demonspanker. Owain is less than impressed.

It is made obvious from her cosmetic in-game one liners that Lucina believes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. When the player character interacts with a merchant, every party member has a quote when their inventory is selected for selling – Lucina’s is, “Go ahead. The gold will serve a greater cause.” When she gains a level in combat, her congratulatory quote is, “This strength serves more than me alone.” Her staunch noble streak and heavy tendency toward pragmatism causes her to weigh cost and value in every scenario, and she never hesitates if personal sacrifice is called for. She is not just fighting for herself. She is fighting for everyone she knows and the fate of her world – and this is a cause she’s prepared to die for, if necessary.

This also becomes apparent when speaking with her sibling, discussing the nature of Falchion. A legendary blade that only synchronizes with a select few members of the Ylisse royal line, Lucina inherited Falchion from her father shortly after his death. However, when it becomes apparent that her younger sibling had never tested his or her compatibility with the sword, Lucina is insistent this be rectified, in light of the very real possibility that she will be killed in battle. Lucina does not shy away from this fact or try to couch it. She does not want to die, no; but she’s prepared to if it comes to that.

She has a strong protective streak, even if it doesn’t always come across in the way she speaks to people. Although favouring practicality over coddling, Lucina is far from malicious. She’s young and fire forged, trying her hardest to bring kindness into an unkind world.

CANON POWERS:
  • An accomplished swordsman, Lucina is considered something remarkable by her peers.

  • The skill Aether allows her to severely cripple an opponent’s defensive capabilities and heal herself mildly in the process. However, this skill is limited strictly to combat; Lucina is not a healer by trade.

OTHER: Canonically, Lucina's father is fixed but her mother can be six different women depending on the choices made by the player, and her sibling's identity is likewise decided by player choice. I intend to keep the identity of her mother and sibling vague up until the possibility that we get one of those characters in-game.

MAGIC ABILITY: Lucina possesses incredible hammerspace capabilities for storage. She can take objects up to a certain size and store them... somewhere. Not even she knows where they go, but she can summon them back out from the unknowable place of holding just as easily.

PARAMETERS — guest starring: a microwave.
  • Size matters. A rule of thumb is that if Lucina cannot naturally carry the item in her arms, then storing it would be difficult - if not outright impossible. A microwave is easy. A full-sized cannon is not.

  • Quantity doesn't matter as long as they're stored one at a time. A microwave or fifty microwaves, fine!

  • She cannot store anything living. No animals, people, or plants. Trying to store something living would be akin to trying to use a microwave that isn't plugged in. Nothing happens.

ANY WEAPONS/MAGICAL ITEMS?: FALCHION. Or, more correctly, Parallel Falchion - the inheritance of her birthright and the sacred blade of the Exalt's line. Largely, it works in tandem with the Fire Emblem to protect the world and the nation of Ylisse from peril. How? ... Yeah, idk. It's shiny. It also only works as a proper blade for those it chooses. Anyone not chosen who tries to use it will find it as dull as a stone, incapable of slicing bread.

In Acatalepsy, it will only be a shiny sword. Lucina will be the only one able to use it as a sword, but its other powers will be irrelevant.
